In an effort to assist displaced families in the conflicted city of Marawi, more then 30 OPM acts are spearheading a series of benefit shows across Metro Manila titled Jam For Peace, which will be held throughout the month of August and September.
Organized by Jampack Music PH, the fundraiser jam's lineups include Hale, Spongecola, Rocksteddy, Itchyworms, Mayonnaise, indie bands like Sud, Jensen and the Flips, Ben&Ben and Brisom, and solo artists Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal and Aia De Leon among others.
"We want to do something that will make us feel good in helping out people kasi we have friends from Marawi and nakaka-touch talaga yung story nila so parang paano ba tayo makakatulong?," explained Jampack's spokesperson Tommy Tanchanco on how they came up with the project. "So 'yun, nag-bind kami together ng mga manager and all of our bands so we are doing this all together."
Barbie, meanwhile, expressed how honored she is to be part of this cause. "I'm grateful to be able to help. 'Yun nga as a musician, it's being able to use your music para tumulong parang it's the least that I can do. Kasi 'yun nga nakikita natin sa news, gusto natin tumulong 'diba. Nakakatuwa din na we're also giving ways to young people... for them to help."
"I think it's human nature you wanna help out, you want your brothers and sisters from Marawi to feel they're not forgotten and as Filipinos and human beings, you just wanna do your part whether it's big or small," Hale's frontman Champ Lui Pio said.
Nikki Tirona of Mayonnaise added, "It's a good feeling to help also 'diba. You get blessings everyday so might as well give them back also - help out."
Event will kickoff its way on August 16 at Historia Boutique Bar and Restaurant, then on August 31 at Route 196, September 9 at B-Side, September 20 at 12 Monkeys and will wrap up on September 30 at 19 East.
Admission to all venues is Php300 - except 19 East which is Php400 - inclusive of one drink. Let's all stand to help our fellow Filipinos pressed between violence in Mindanao.
